About Needham

Welcome to Needham, Massachusetts! Located just 10 miles southwest of Boston, this medium-sized, family-friendly suburb offers everything and more to its residents. Needham has some of the highest-ranked schools, restaurants, and retail around and will be sure to make you feel right at home as soon as you move in!


Needham School District is ranked in the top 20% of all Massachusetts school districts. It provides its students with exceptional public school education from pre-k through high-school as well as tailored special-education supports.  Averaging at 5700 total students a year, Needham School District is divided up into 6 Elementary schools, High Rock 6th grade school, Pollard Middle School, and Needham High School. With a graduation rate of 97% compared to the state’s 88%, Needham Public Schools provide their students with the tools and support needed for life-long academic success. 

For higher education, Needham is home to Olin College of Engineering.

Grocery and Dining

There are three large grocery stores in town, including Trader Joes, Roche Brothers, and Sudbury farms. Are you looking to dine out and try something new? Needham has a wide variety of highly-rated dining options; From town-favorite breakfast spots like Cafe Fresh Bagel, Three Squares, and Cook to staple restaurants like Bertuccis, Sweet Basil, and Ray’s New Garden, there’s always something new and exciting to try. Shopping and Retail

Downtown Needham features pedestrian-friendly walking routes, a historic town-center square, and a collection of small-owned and brand-name retail stores. Stop by Closet Exchange for your favorite thrift store finds or head over to Harvey’s Hardware for any home repair need. For office or pet supplies, head down Highland Avenue to find Staples and Petco right in the same complex. 


With 70% of the town surrounded by water and greenery, Needham is home to dozens of local parks, beautiful nature spots, and dog-friendly hiking trails. Cutler Park Reservation offers visitors a breathtaking walking-loop around Cutler pond and Needham Town Woods has several inclined trails leading to Needham’s “High Rock” where travelers can see the Boston skyline. 


Residents from Needham love to enjoy the Needham Golf Club that features luxury dining and a large 18-hole course. Open six days a week with regular community and children events, Needham Free Public Library is a great place to learn, study, and read. During summer months, residents can enjoy the town’s brand-new, outdoor, public swimming pool at Rosemary Lake, featuring slides, diving boards, and lap-swimming lanes. Check out Needham’s two YMCA locations, with an indoor pool at the Great Plain Avenue building and state-of-the-art workout equipment and group classes at the Chestnut Street building. 


Located in close proximity to Boston, the town of Needham is equipped with 4 MBTA Commuter Rail stops, with frequently scheduled times to and from Boston’s South Station. Additionally, the MBTA Bus Route 59 runs from Needham Junction to Watertown square, with stops through Newton.  


Located right downtown is Beth Israel Deaconess Needham Hospital, one of the highest quality hospitals in the area and a branch of the larger Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. There is also the Newton-Wellesley Hospital just a 15-minute drive away.
